Dear DGN Choir Students and Families, Welcome to the DGN Choirs! We’re excited to have you as part of our choir family. Steeped in tradition dating back to the opening of the building over 75 years ago, the DGN Choirs are one of the largest student organizations on campus, and maintain an outstanding reputation in the community and throughout the state of Illinois. We have an amazing group of students this year, and we have no doubt that our students this year will continue to strengthen and uphold the traditions, skills and values of the DGN Choirs. We have an exciting year planned for our students. We know that, as we enter this school year, the Covid-10 Pandemic will require ongoing adjustments to traditional DGN Choir procedures, events and schedules. All plans are being developed with student and staff safety at the forefront, and we are ready to communicate changes in schedule as we know about them. Our experiences this year will undoubtedly be different than what we would typically experience in a non-pandemic environment, but the singing must go on! We are prepared and excited to bring the worlds of singing and choral music to all of our students - whether in person or remote, we will sing! We are working tirelessly to plan meaningful and educational experiences for our students that will challenge them to grow. We are confident that being part of our “choir family” will provide students some important skills and experiences, including opportunities to be musical, to sing, to collaborate with other musicians, to enhance their music education by strengthening their music-reading skills and comprehension, and perhaps most importantly, our students will be able to connect - with each other, the school, and the larger community. This connection could not be more important in times such as these. We care deeply about our students, and as always, remain flexible and vigilant in looking to support students in any way possible. We would ask that students and their families keep open communication, and we will do the same! While we can’t promise exactly how this year will look, we can promise you that our commitment to our students' education and growth is at the forefront of our minds, and we are SO excited to get started! Musically yours, Beth O’Riordan Frank Piekarz [email protected] [email protected] DGN Choirs Q & A Q. What about the August 12th Choir and Orchestra Parent Meeting?
Q. Will there be live concerts this year?
Q. I’m singing in Concert Choir this year - what can you tell me about Concert Singers Auditions?
Q. I am a member of Treble Ensemble or Chamber Choir - how will these ensembles work this fall?
Q. There are so many unknowns about the 2020-21 academic year. Should I stick with choir?
It is also worth noting that the school is not accepting requests to change schedules and/or add additional courses to a student schedule. All of the planning being done to open school requires administrators to work with predefined class lists. If a student were to contact their counselor to request a schedule change at this time, their only option would be to add a study hall in place of choir. Given this information, we hope and expect that you’ll give singing a chance this year, whether we are working in a hybrid or remote manner. You will grow as a musician and person, and have fun doing it! The DGN Fine Arts Department will adapt as variables develop throughout the school year. For now, we are focused on a safe start that provides students with a rewarding and positive experience through the exploration of Fine Arts. Comments are closed.
